We celebrated 20 years of cooperation with Perkins International
02.05.2017.On the occasion of marking 20 years of partnership and collaboration between Perkins International and Mali Dom-Zagreb, representatives of Perkins School for the Blind and Perkins International visited the Mali Dom-Zagreb. On this occasion, a solemn reception was held on April 25, 2017, at Esplanade Hotel.
Perkins International is an international program of Perkins School for the Blind from Boston, USA - a global leader in the education of children with visual impairment and multiple difficulties.
Twenty years ago, successful cooperation between Perkins International and Mali Dom-Zagreb began as the first and only educational rehabilitation program in Croatia for children with multiple disabilities and visual impairment. The collaboration started with support for the development of the program, especially through the professional support and professional training of the employees of the Small House. During the 20 years of successful cooperation, Mali dom-Zagreb has grown to the referral center of the region and today, in cooperation with Perkins International, is educating and empowering other partners in many countries of our region with the aim of involving as many children with disabilities in the system where they can get Appropriate services.
The reception was held in order to mark a successful co-operation on the visits of members of the Supervisory Board and representatives of Perkins International and Perkins School for blind people in Zagreb and Croatia, and they visited us Mrs. Corinne Basler Grousbeck - Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Dave Power - President and CEO, Mr. Phillip L. Ladd - Chair of International Committee, Stephanie C. Andrews - Trustee and Mr. Raymond W. Hepper - Trustee - Supervisory Board members, Mr. Michael Delaney - Executive Director of Perkins International, David Whalen - Chief Development Officer and Mr. Dennis Lolli - Regional Director, Europe & Eurasia.
The reception was attended by representatives of the City of Zagreb, headed by the Deputy Head of the Office for Social Protection and Missing Persons. Romanom Galić, and Head of Department for Professional Rehabilitation and Employment Mrs. Sandrom Čirkinagić, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation, including the Department of Teacher Education Ms. Snjezana Sekušak and the head of the Department for Visual Damage, Mr. Ante Bilić-Prcić and representatives of UNICEF, the parents of the Mali Dom's users and others. On behalf of the mayor of the City of Zagreb, the Congress was greeted by his delegate, Mrs. Ana Stavljenić Rukavina, after which the meeting was addressed by the director of Small House-Zagreb Darija Udovičić Mahmuljin, briefly presenting the work of Mali Dom-Zagreb and Perkins International and the results of successful cooperation. The meeting also addressed Mrs. Corinne Basler Grousbeck and Mr. Dave Power also highlighted the successful long-term cooperation of these two institutions and the desire to continue the same and further expand the international activity of Perkins International.
